Wal-Mart has been faced with impeccable human resource issues when it comes to their employees. Of the many criticisms Wal-Mart has been blamed for, wage law violations through exploitation of workers and discrimination against pregnant workers, women, the elderly, and the disabled are two of the largest ones. Wal-Mart pays a substantially low wage for the amount of work that employees endure. Wal-Mart's mission is to provide low prices for the customer; however, this backfires on employees causing lower wages. There are many solutions to help avoid wage law violation. Educating workers is key; Setting up workshops to communicate to employees and employers and teach them how to prevent discrimination. In order to show that equality and diversity are at the core of Wal-Mart’s business plan, it is crucial to implement equality and diversity policy in place that is effective. This will support diversity in the workplace and establishes to the employees that it is taken seriously. The equality diversity policy will be applied to each facet of the workplace, including recruitment, salaries and benefits through discipline procedures, promotion opportunities and after work activities. Employees and customers are further faithful to companies that prove they value diversity. By implementing these plans, both the employees and the company will gain. Employees will directly benefit from the alleviation of discrimination amongst them. They should hire more employees and improve overall employee morale by changing their outlook on employees. Introducing more employees leads to several benefits for Wal-Mart that can perhaps shift the entire employee culture. The first benefit would be that no employee would be forced to work off-the-clock which Wal-Mart has a history of doing (Is Wal-Mart Ethical? Debate, 2009). Not forcing employees to work off-the-clock would obviously help in boosting the morale of employees. Additionally, it would also help to improve the overall atmosphere at Wal-Mart with more employees customers can interact with and get help from. Obviously, Wal-Mart would not be understaffed either if more employees were hired. Being understaffed results in a fair share of problems such as customers not being able to find help and shelves not being stocked properly. Solving these problems by increasing the amount of staff members would be beneficial towards more pleased customers which in is something the company should be striving
