A beloved man showed his entrepreneurial spirit of knowing how to sell a product when he created Walt Disney Studios in 1937. While Disney had a tough childhood with an extremely strict father, it never deterred his love for fun and making others laugh. In 1928, when he created the character Mickey Mouse, he blew up and received his first academy award in 1932. This led to his first full length animated movie, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” which was released in 1937 and cost $1,499,000 to produce. Halfway through making the film, Disney ran out of money and people all around him told him to give up and move on; during the depression, there’d be no way he’d get the money to finish. Blake Mycoskie, the creator of TOMS shoes, took advantage of the year 2006 and combined things America loved, comfortable shoes and helping the less fortunate. Since the Great Recession lifted, it’s been a part of the American spirit to look for ways to make a difference and Mycoskie definitely noticed this as he pioneered the business model, “one for one,” where for every one pair of shoes bought, another pair goes to someone in need, leading to a $400 million company. Andre Young, also known as Dr. Dre is also one who can’t be forgotten. While Dr. Dre had already made a name for himself as a rapper and producer, his electronics line, Beats Electronics, is what really set him off as a mogul. Accounting for 61% of headphones and speakers’ sales nationwide, Dre with the help of Interscope Records’ chairman, Jimmy Iovine, created the enterprise after a quick talk on the beach. After Apple bought the company for $3 billion, Dre’s personal fortune went up to $800 million, making him the richest person in hip-hop’s history. Arianna Huffington, the founder of the Huffington Post, an online news blog, in the face of those who dismissed her ideas as trash, theft, and idiocy built a $30 million company in the span of six years. She saw the uprising of media business and gained the upper hand by creating a whole new type of digital journalism from the ground up while in the process creating over 200 jobs. Not to mention, Evan Spiegel, the founder of Snapchat. Travis Kalanick, creator of Uber. Bill Gates, inventor of Microsoft. Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook. Steve Jobs, creator of Apple.
