Many people have no clue who John Brown was. John Brown was an American abolitionist who believed that slaves should be treated equally. John Brown was a white man who lived in the North and thought what was happening in the South would have to come to an end. Brown believed the only way to get rid of slavery in the South was violence. He brutally killed many slaveholders and their families in the South because they owned slaves. Although he did prove slavery was wrong, John Brown was no hero, he was a villain. How was John Brown a villian one may ask. John Brown was a villain because he ordered people to kill innocent people. In the article John Brown: Villain or Hero?, page one, it states “[John Brown] Dragged five unarmed men and boys from their homes along Kansas Pottawatomie Creek and hacked and dismembered their bodies.” This quote explains how John Brown took innocent children and family members and killed them violently. Even though many see John Brown as a hero, it is clear that he was truly a villain. On page 5 of John Brown: America’s First Terrorist?, the article states that John Brown was a “lunatic and a threat to the Union.” Many people agree with this statement and he even was a sort of embarrassment for the union because he was a face of the Union.
