The Western High Case Study is an inclusive document that includes a detailed school wide improvement plan. This artifact shows my mastery of Specialty Standard 1. Specialty Standard 1 requires an educational leader collaborate and facilitate a unified school vision. In the case study, extensive detail to methods of information gathering were mentioned. From quantitative data collected from state and federal databases to qualitative responses from the community, this case study showcases my understand of collaboration. This collaboration was then used to fulfill the second portion of Special Standard 1. These aspects include curriculum, financial, and most importantly vision leadership. For a staff to understand where they are going, they need to know where and what to work towards. When crafting a mission statement, I must meet the desires of all stakeholders. This includes staff members. A school vision will only be fully embraced if the staff members agree with eh direction of the vision. Employees that are not consulted regarding a vision statement will be hesitant to engage in the task of promoting the vision. Simply creating a vision statement is not sufficient action to promote the welfare of students through the vision statement. The educational leader must engage in the implantation of school plans to increase the organizational effectiveness of the staff. Whether it is a staffing decision or a curriculum change, the principal must take charge. Monitoring and assessing the schools vision statement is also crucial. A standard of effectiveness must be created, and the vision statement must be monitored. I must remember to utilize data such as parent teacher student association membership, daily attendance, and behavior recorders can be used to monitor the success of a school’s vision.
