Returning to college as an adult learner can be a remarkable journey. There are several factors to consider when initiating the start of the college process. Juggling family time, work, and school can be difficult for your average student. Consideration needs to be given on how you will accommodate the time and place that you will research and complete the assignments. Time management is an integral part of the learning process. Research conducted on students with a career and family attending Open University indicated that the students averaged at least fourteen hours of study time a week (Arthur, L., & Tait, A., 2004).
As I contemplate how I will manage to devote twenty to twenty five hours a week to my coursework, I begin to feel very overwhelmed. Being an adult learner has additional challenges that a traditional student might not face.

Once arriving home, the household chores and cooking supper are the first tasks I tackle. Generally, I have around three to four hours left before bedtime. Weekends are spent finishing up the chores that have been neglected throughout the week and relaxing with my family. Transitioning from employee to student requires that I improve my time management skills. During the week, my plans are to focus on my coursework for two hours a day after work. I am going to readjust my lunch routine by researching my assignments and completing the read and attend section on the online virtual campus. The proposed schedule would grant me approximately fifteen hours of time dedicated to my class. I will struggle with giving up Saturday and Sunday more than any weekday. My goal is minimize my class time on the weekends and devote the majority of that time to my family and personal hobbies. By focusing on my classes primarily during the week, I can limit my weekends to a couple hours a day for reviewing my written essays and submitting
