The Target Corporation as it is known today grew out of a small dry goods store that is known for giving back. Target grew in a retail research company that then expanded into a commercial business. Target had grown out of the Dayton-Hudson Corporation and became its biggest source of revenue. When the company was renamed to Target its focus was on helping the environment and education and making sure they were giving back. With this company in partial its main focus today has not changed and with it being one of the top retailers in the United States they can really make the difference.
Northrop Grumman (NOC) was founded in 1939 with the headquarter based in Falls Church, Virginia. It is one of the largest US. defense company. The company employed about 70,000 full-time employees and operates in following different segments: Aerospace System, Mission System, and Technology Services. Northrop Grumman mission is to use its competencies and capabilities in helping its customers resolve complex issues by providing innovative products and solutions.
If you have ever been in contact with any modern piece of technology such as the smart phones or a brand new computer laptop, then there is a very high chance that it had something to do with Northrop Grumman. What does Northrop Grumman do, you might ask? Well the better question would be is what field the company hasn’t reached yet, as they are a true innovator in the field of technology. When the Army Materiel Command (AMC) employed me, I served in a variety of roles one of which was the senior technical advisor for architecture and technology (ostensibly the CTO for the CIO). AMC, a 53 Billion dollar year logistics command that serves as the army version of amazon for the army’s current inventory of weapons, supplies and vehicles. I extensive experience in implementing IT and telecommunications technology including hardware, software, and systems design as well as a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the IT industry and emerging technologies. Business Assessment An organization must identify its core competencies and strategically align those competencies with its business objectives to achieve success. In fact, C.K. Prahalad and Gary Hamel explained in the Harvard Business Review that the most powerful way for an organization to prevail is for it to “identify, cultivate, and exploit the core competencies that make growth possible” (2000). I am flattered that you would recommend me to look into the honors program, but I don’t believe that it would be a good fit for me. I talked about the “To New Horizons" presentation by General Motors in 1940. It is a utopian presentation of the world GM envisions of what the 1960’s will look like. It was based off of a miniature diorama, “Highways and Horizons” made for the World’s Fair Futurama exhibit in 1939. The value I found in this piece of history was not any commercial use GM had but their way of looking forward.
