BACKGROUND INFORMATION John Hopkins owner of - Countryside Construction - employs forty people and grossed more than $5 million annually. John prides himself on his management philosophy of diversity and perseverance, which he attributes Countryside Construction’s success to. Countryside Construction began as a small aggregate producer that dealt with operations and capitalization of a local gravel pit, it eventually grew into making a successful venture into waste management. John created a new division of Countryside Construction specific to waste management operations. This division was allowed additional operational and management duties of two more County landfills. The main issue needed to be dealt with is Gwen’s aggressive attitude and office behaviour. If left unresolved the company will lose many valuable hardworking employees due to one person, as well as its profits. If Gwen is not taken care of she could cause potential damage to the company. This has been a result of Gwen letting her personal life affect her performance at work. Over the past six months, Gwen's performance has suffered and her attitude has changed for the worse; many had lost respect for her. In spite of fellow employees attempt to be respectful of her personal situation by being lenient towards Gwen, her mood has remained unchanged continuing to cause issues with others. By having John and Vincent talk to Gwen allows for the two to represent a strong united front. Vincent’s presence allows for John to not be swayed by Gwen’s emotional persuasion. A clear and effective discussion reduces barriers and confusion between the involving parties, encouraging Gwen to acknowledge the standards of the company and recognize her problematic behaviour. In addition, this approach allows Vincent to exercise his authoritative position, as well as mend the divisions the employees previously endured. Employees can feel comfortable in their workplace without feeling threatened by Gwen’s behaviour, which would improve the product quality and save costs for the employees who resigned. By reconstructing the workplace dynamic, allows John to be able to place new incentives to create a better work environment, ultimately benefiting the company. With John and Vincent demonstrating their authoritative leadership abilities, it would allow for employees to feel more secure knowing their problems will be dealt with in a justified approach.
