The development of communication technology has allowed North Americans to become more connected than ever before. Modern communication technology has allowed people to communicate faster, cheaper, and more vividly than ever before. People can now talk to friends and family instantly, from anywhere. Whereas before communicating long distances took money and time. Besides the increased speed and lowered price, people can now communicate with each other more vividly than ever before. Applications like facetime allow two people from opposite ends of the globe to talk face-to-face with each other as if they were right next to each other. Social media such as Instagram or Snapchat allow people to share and show moments of their life to others as if they were right there with them. Faster and cheaper communication also allows people to communicate more frequently than ever before. People are no longer restricted to getting their news from newspapers. Now one can catch up on the news from television, social media, online articles or videos. This allows news to reach a much wider audience, as people who may not enjoy newspapers can get their news in a different way. The variety of forms of media has allowed news and information to reach people on a level not possible before. Not only does the increased variety of media reach more people, but it also allows people to consume more informative and high-quality media coverage. Rather than reading a couple of paragraphs with some black-and-white images, one can now watch informative long-length videos with matching dialogue and visuals. The variety of media forms also means the variety of viewpoints presented in the media. The amount of news reports from different sources/writers available is more than ever. Independent journalism is now easier than ever. News isn’t just exclusively from corporations anymore, independent journalists can now publish their articles on a variety of platforms, in a variety of forms. These platforms also allow regular people to react to these articles and share their own viewpoints and opinions on certain issues. Platforms such as this and the increased diversity of media, in general, have
