Lucius Quinctius or “Cincinnatus” is the best-known early Roman dictator. A dictator is “a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained power by force”. Cincinnatus was called to be dictator when a powerful enemy had surrounded a Roman army. What makes this so unique is the fact that Cincinnatus was actually a farmer. He left his farm and everything else behind to battle the enemy. He gathered a small army to help him and it is said that he defeated the enemy in a single day. Not very long after this Cincinnatus returned to farm in Rome with the victory. But what I find weird is that Cincinnatus did not want to continue ruling and having power. He only maintained his authority long enough to pull Rome through the emergency
