I agree with the idea that taking notes on pen and paper are better for recalling information. “Because people can type faster than they write, using a laptop will make people more likely to try to transcribe everything they 're hearing,"(Mueller). When students just type what they hear involuntarily, they are not processing the information; the students are typing without thinking. Texting is ubiquitous in modern Western society. It's a convenient way to communicate basic ideas quickly without having to commit to a phone conversation or the long wait for a letter. All of this is done through cellular phones on the go and many teenagers have subscribed to this method of communication as their primary one. When texting, it is customary to abbreviate certain words in order to save time. These abbreviations can be considered a language that evolves out of texting, and that language can be referred to as textspeak.
Her study shows the negative results of texting but many people believe that texting have positive attributes to students, such as motivating students to write using different writing skills, and allowing them to achieve more confidence in their writing. Although texting represents an easy and quick way of communication; it also creates a problem to student’s ability to write. Cullington writes that, “it’s taking over our lives. We can do it almost anywhere.... It’s quick, easy, and convenient (p. 367)”
Though the world is becoming dependent on technology, are we becoming overly dependent? Cursive writing is an important writing skill that should be taught in schools, that is on the edge of becoming extinct. At least 41 states in the United States don’t require public schools to teach cursive anymore. This will greatly affect students because not everything is capable of being done on the computer. Even though technology is a great agricultural advancement cursive writing is still a beneficial tool to be taught and not overlooked.
Writing is an essential function we, as people use to communicate. We write letters, sign get well cards, write checks aswell as sign them. The list goes on. Writing in cursive has been a pillar throughout history: Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and countless other events were partial to writing in cursive. "Cursive Is a Powerful Brain Tool" thrives on the idea that cursive writing is indeed, good for us.
I find that true because to me writing by hand helps me memorize what I wrote down more. I guess the fact that writing stuff by hand makes you memorize the stuff longer. When I do write my notes in laptop I tend to do write down the stuff fast so I don’t really memorize them. But, then again that is a good perk of writing stuff on your laptop. Like when your teacher asks you to take notes and you have little time typing your notes is faster.
Cursive shouldn 't be taught in the digital age, with technology making more and more advancements cursive is "Fading into Obscurity" and we don 't need it as much. We could be teaching programming instead of cursive because we will need more programmers and computer engineers in the future, but what do people want to teach instead, cursive. Also, WHY WOULD YOU

At an early age, my elementary school, St.Timothy, forced my classmates and me to do extensive exercises in cursive writing. The exercises in question came from a red book that read the title "Cursive Writing. " It featured over sixty pages of exercises and each exercise involved writing the same alphabetical letter over three letter pages. There were even bonus exercises that involved using the learned cursive words in sentences or paragraphs, and these bonus exercises were given as extra credit to the kids with a sleight of hand.

Throughout my academic years I have been taught many different styles of writing and within those years I have been able to determine my strengths and weakness in my writing. My daily writing consists of texting, writing lists, and school work. I use these writing styles for school, as a way to set reminders and as a form of communication to my friends and family. For the most part, I prefer to use pencil and paper when I write. Even though, I do like typing on my computer and phone, I believe that when writing on a plain piece of lined paper my ideas flow better.
(Refer to Appendix 1) Five out of ten questions in the questionnaire were related to pupils’ attitude towards writing while the other five questions were aimed to gauge pupils’ experience in learning writing using computer. For the aspect of pupils’ attitude toward writing sentence, the response of pupils was generally negative. Based on their response, it could be seen that all participants do not like to write and feel that writing is a difficult task for them to perform. The result of this questionnaire also showed that participants had low self-confidence in their writing. Two out of five participants stated that they could not write a correct sentence while the other three participants felt that they could only write one correct sentence sometimes.
