Nolan DeMink Mrs. Schneider Acc English 2 27 April 2023 The Most Powerful Man in the World Julius Caesar was a man that defined an empire for the generations to come. He was arguably one of the most influential people to walk the earth. In the Roman senate, he could reign in the corrupt senators who sought to fill their own pockets with the plebeian's money. He used his mighty charisma to convince everybody that he could do no wrong, which enabled him to have support everywhere he went. Winning the Roman civil war and his successful invasion of the Gauls, furthered Caesar’s power by making him seen as some sort of god to the people. For example, when Caesar returned from the Roman civil he dedicated himself fully to Roman politics, transforming “All aspects of his life, including his fortune, his choice of wife, and his character now all had political implications surrounding them. For example, he married several times and always to a woman that would help boost his political standing or wealth. He put all of his fortune, including fortune he got through marriage, into politics via parties and bribes” (Caesar’s Rise to Power in Rome). This showed how, when Caesar had all the power, he quickly set out to influence the politics of Rome and secure alliances via marriage. The last example of Caesar using his power to influence Rome is how “He used to spoil his Gaul and Britain to finance his supporters. Caesar had by now even eclipsed Pompey. However, the Senate wanted to strip him of his army and to prosecute him” (How did Julius Caesar's rise to power?). He used his military power to crush the Gauls and Britons and then used the finances from plundering to buy out the people in the senate, effectively making him the senate.
