The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a play with a common theme of not taking responsibility and blaming it on fate. When people blame what happens to them on fate, it causes them to learn to not take responsibility for their actions. In the play, Romeo, a member of the Montague family, and Juliet, a member of the Capulet family, fall in love and get married. They decide to keep it a secret and when Juliet is forced by her father to marry someone else she fakes her death. Romeo kills himself since he was not aware she was still alive, and then Juliet does the same after she sees him dead. When Romeo was outside Juliet's room, they were confessing their love for eachother and Juliet says, “If that thy bent of love be honorable, / Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow, / By one that I’ll procure to come to thee, / Where and what time thou wilt perform the rite; / And all my fortunes at thy foot I’ll lay / And follow thee my lord throughout the world” (2.2.157-158). Juliet wants Romeo to marry her and she says she will do anything with and for him. Her lack of experience causes her to think she should do this and only love him and get married so soon. After Juliet saw Romeo dead with the poison he took, she says, “What’s here? A cup, closed in my true love’s hand? / Poison, I see, hath been his timeless end. / O churl! Drunk all, and left no friendly drop / To help me after? I will kiss thy lips. Haply some poison yet doth hang on them / To make me die with a restorative” (5.3.174-179). When Romeo killed himself after seeing Juliet “dead”, Juliet decided to kill herself too. She says that it would make her better.
