Consumer Need Whole Foods Market is a “grocery store that is always searching for the highest quality natural and organic foods that are available. Whole Foods Market strives to sustain as well as provide the highest excellence standards in the business, and has an unwavering responsibility for sustainable agriculture (Whole Foods Market, 2014). Consumers are looking for a “health food” store that is not only offering pills and serums, but also offering good healthy nutritional food (Whole Foods Market, 2014). In 1980, there were only six food grocery stores that offered natural foods in the United States. (Whole Foods Market, 2014) Americans today are more aware of the words or abbreviations such as GMF or genetically modified foods. The public is constantly hearing about some form of food recall or food born illness such as mad cow disease, spinach recalls, and even lettuce has been recalled due to improper handling. Today’s society is moving towards a larger amount of organic foods in their diet. A study that was conducted in 2014 shows that over 40% of Americans will increase the amount of organic foods in their diet within one year (Organic Consumers Association, 2014). Over 63% of Americans already include some form of organic foods or drinks in their current diet (Organic Consumers Association, 2014). Social Responsibility People in today’s society are also greatly interested in their social responsibility. Companies are more conscientious of what they are contributing to the environment (Langer, 2014). People are holding themselves as well as others to a higher standard of health. There are many people in todays society that believe by purchasing more foods that are organic that they are doing their part in helping the environment as well as themselves at the same time (Kianpour, 2014).
