Star crossed lovers or lustful teenagers? In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare two teens from feuding families meet their untimely demise. But who is to blame? I believe that the people to blame are the victims themselves. One reason I blame Romeo for his and Juliet’s death is his dishonesty. In the play, peter, a manservant, is given the task of finding the people on the guest list for a party. He can not read and asks Romeo for help. Then he says, “ … and if you be not of the house of Montagues, I pray come and crush a cup of wine. Rest you merry.”( Act I, Scene ii) Romeo, a Montague, knows he is not supposed to go but due to him being untrustworthy, does anyway. When Romeo confesses to Friar Lawrence he says, “ … Is Rosaline, whom thou didst love so dear, so soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.” (Act II, Scene iii) In the beginning Romeo is so in “love” with Rosaline, but as soon as he sees something better, in this case Juliet, he forgets about Rosaline. All in all, this shows that Romeo is to blame for his and Juliet’s death. One reason I blame Juliet for her and Romeo’s death is her infatuation. She immediately falls in love with the first guy that hits on her. “ But to be frank, and give it thee again. And yet I wish but for the thing I have : My bounty is as endless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.” (Act II, Scene ii) If she would not have fallen for Rome so easily she could still be alive.
