One day there was a college athlete who was assigned a research paper. That night he started the paper, but soon realized that it's much harder than he anticipated. So he went online and copied another essay and put his name on it. As a result, he lost his scholarship and was kicked out of the college. By creating Honor Codes it helps the students be more responsible. Adopting Honor Codes will be helpful for schools/colleges and students because they build trust, have students come together and build teamwork, and everyone plays by the same rules. Having a build in trust with other students is a great way to have Honor Codes. Honor Codes give students the opportunity to come together and build teamwork. Although having group project have one person doing the work, from Honor Codes students are able to come together and work as a team. Unlike the majority of colleges where proctoring of tests and exams is the responsibility of the faculty and/or administration, many schools with academic honor codes allow students to take their exams without proctors present, relying on peer monitoring to control cheating (McCabe, Pavela). The proctors because I know that there will be no cheating while taking exams/tests. We believe it is significant that the highest levels of cheating are usually found at colleges that have not engaged their students in active dialogue on the issue of academic dishonesty—colleges where the academic integrity policy is basically dictated to students and where students play little or no role in promoting academic integrity or adjudicating suspected incidents of cheating (McCabe, Pavela). Having the opportunity to work with other people and build teamwork is another way to have Honor Codes. Having Honor Codes people are able to play by the same rules. From people saying playing by the same rules is dumb, students say having an opportunity to exercise be able to do what other students are doing. (Sawvel). We put the Honor Code and Honor Concept to use early in the first year by taking time out of the freshman design class as soon as the students are beginning to experience academic pressure( Sawvel). For Honor Code to help students and not add pressure to them it helps the students in and having work be done. Whenever possible students are presented with the opportunities to exercise the Honor Concept(Sawvel). It's good for students to be able to exercise the point of Honor Concept. 33 percent of schools investigated show evidence of cheating on standardized tests, with charter schools being four times as likely to be found cheating as public schools(Sawvel).
