WW1 was caused by many different factors; Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, Nationalism and Leaders of countries at the time. Most people, however, think that Alliances were the biggest cause of WW1. What happened on July 28,1914 was the beginning. On this day Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. This was because Austria-Hungary thought that the act of assassinating Archduke Franz Ferdinand was inflicted by the whole of Serbia, not just a few people. The majority of Europe had already been split into two alliances, the Triple Alliance (Austria-Hungary, Italy and Germany) and the Triple Entente (France, Britain and Russia). When Austria-Hungary and Serbia started war, the alliances had to come help the country that they were alliances with.
