How do their writing processes help the students in high school? How does Shakespeare and Steinbeck’s work benefit high school English classrooms? What publications benefit high schools? Both John Steinbeck and William Shakespeare should be taught in high school English. William Shakespeare and John Steinbeck produced many publications throughout their writing career. For instance, the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. holds 7,000 works on Shakespeare (Bryson 20-21). In his story of Cain, scriptural fantasies appeared twenty-five times in thirty-eight plays, which seemed to be a high amount (Bryson 61). In April of 1593, he created a narrative poem before his twenty-ninth birthday. For example, in his narrative poem titled Venus and Adonis, it elevated an understanding cringe even after numerous years (Bryson 86). By 1594, Shakespeare seemed to be on the road to success. Shakespeare became an actor throughout his professional life. For example, he became recognized as an actor on his work in 1592, 1598, 1603, and 1608 (Bryson 81). In addition, Steinbeck earned several honors for his best work titled The Grapes of Wrath. In the year of 1939, it gained Steinbeck popular recognition (Gladstein 258). For example, the novel received the Pulitzer Prize in 1940 and the American literature’s highest honors. This led to the novel winning the National Book Award (Shilllglaw) (Thompson 62). In 1937, his novel Of Mice and Men won the Drama Critics Circle Award (Shillinglaw). He also received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1962 (Shillinglaw). Steinbeck remains one of America’s most significant twentieth-century writers (Shillinglaw). Because Shakespeare and Steinbeck received awards for their published work, it helps students see how hard work pays
