We are in an era where most things, such as communicating with others via social media, looking at Youtube videos, shopping, reading articles, etc., are done via the Internet, since they are easily more accessible to anyone. Social media forms a very important part of the Internet since it is where many teens under the age of 21 interact with one another, as well as those who are 21 and older. Social media has gone through many transformations throughout the ages, yet their main source of income has been promoting advertisements. Marketing is a profession that targets its customers in order to increase the sales of a certain product or service by appealing to the people that are most likely to buy that product or service. Not having restrictions on who can see their advertisement on Youtube and allowing it to be shared on social media caused for the advertisement to receive half a million hits in a week. This type of marketing has become a moral issue since it has allowed and promoted the use of alcohol on those under the age of 21, possibly causing for underage drinking to increase. The Federal Trade Commission has been brought up to this case in order to protect minors from exposure to alcohol advertising.
