There are countless of reasons why I have chosen to attend an HBCU. I did my research and of course there are pros and cons to attending an HBCU. The question to me was which one will out weigh the other. To begin, HBCU is an acronym. It stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The principal mission of an HBCU was, and is, the education of black Americans. After the research of choosing to attend an HBCU or not, in my opinion I made the right decision to attend one.

To start off with my first reason to attend, I have relatives that are alumni of the following HBCUs, Tuskegee University, Savannah State University, and Allen University. I also have relatives that are currently attending Morehouse College and Benedict College. All my life I have been surrounded by the HBCU communities within each of their schools. I have found it being comforting, a grand lifestyle and most importantly an opportunity to be successful. My cousin who attends Morehouse College inspired me.

One thing I do not mind doing that HBCUs do is help the community. In different ways, the HBCU of my choice will help me in guiding my college life and post college life. In the college life my goals are achievable. They have a variety of ways to help me with my goals. The first thing I want to speak on is the different organizations. It should be a requirement that you have to join at least one. They will help with communication/social skills, time management, leadership, teamwork, and many other things. The next thing they will help me pursue is my degree. What I learn from my individual professors will follow me after I graduate. When I go and purse my goal, I will reflect back on that moment that my professor told me about and I will be able to accomplish the
