Crawford County High School’s senior graduation is coming fast upon me in May 2018. Choosing a career and college is a huge lifelong decision with many financial considerations. After multiple college tours and evaluating the degrees offered, I have decided to attend Indiana University Southeast. IUS is a 45 minute commute and the beautiful serene campus offers everything I need to achieve my educational goals and social aspirations. My mother and older sister are both IU alumni and have inspired me to pursue my education at IUS. Growing up on a 30 acre farm in a very rural economically deprived county is not easy. Experiences on the farm, classes attended, and self- taught curriculum are a few reasons that contribute to me wanting to gain a degree in biology and or dual major in chemistry at IUS. This degree will benefit me as I plan to attain a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and open my own practice providing veterinarian services and education to promote healthier animals and their longevity. I am Spanish decent (Portillo) and have taken three years of Spanish. It is a personal goal of mine to explore and participate in the study abroad opportunities IUS offers, if affordable. Over the years, I have heard positive things from family and friends and what they have received from IUS. The campus and staff offer many services and help that will help me achieve my educational goals. I take my education very serious and enjoy incorporating fun clubs, organizations, and networking with others while learning. IUS offers a student a variety of degrees, organizations, clubs, extracurricular activities, diversity, and experienced instructors. The networking among colleges IUS participates in, assures me success in any future direction. Although I work a part time job as a cashier for Jay C Foods. And my mother has a good paying job, college expenses are a lot to take on, especially as I plan to go more than four years. My mother’s income according to my FASFA report, I am only eligible for student loans because she works a lot to make ends meet. The animals are not accounted for and having a farm can be quite costly. My farm is not just to raise animals for 4-H, it is my home, my responsibility, and my hobby.
