I could remember vividly of how our family sat in the bleachers of Stevens Stadium, as we waited for my brother to be called. I was first introduced to Santa Clara University when I attended my brother's graduation ceremony in 2004. Having graduated from SCU, my brother, Rendy Soedarjo exemplified what he had learned there both implicitly and explicitly. His education at the Leavey School of Business equipped him the knowledge and skills that proved beneficial in his career in corporate finance, which inspired me to pursue the finance education, experience, and opportunities offered at SCU. My brother decided to take my mother and me on a tour of the campus. We visited the Mission Santa Clara de Asís. I immediately sensed an academic environment, rich in Christian values on which I based my life up to this point. To add to that, SCU's pleasant atmosphere, beautiful Spanish architecture, and friendly students and faculty, two of which I had the privilege to converse, further strengthened my desire to study in SCU. My most recent visit was during the Meningitis incident a while back. I came to accompany my friend and fellow SCU student get his vaccination. I was impressed at how the University remained professional during this incident and offered free vaccination to accommodate it's student's concerns. It was these two visits that further strengthened my desire to attend SCU.

I can relate to SCU's strategic mission, which stresses the importance of a positive character. Having studied in a Catholic high school, I learned that a positive character is essential to succeeding in life. Knowledge, love, and financial independence will reveal themselves to individuals with the right character traits. From that, I believe that SCU will provide me not only the knowledge to succeed in the world, but also the character traits needed to make the world a better
