Abortion is an issue that is commonly debated about with various viewpoints, I will be looking at the religious tradition of Catholicism and what their beliefs and teachings are around this issue. An ethical issue is a system of moral principles, it is often associated with the way people make decisions in their lives as it is concerned with what someone thinks is good for society and for individuals. Abortion is to terminate a pregnancy by removing the foetus before birth, two main methods are used for this which are medical and surgical abortion. Medical abortion involves the taking of pills and is used if you are in the first 9 weeks of pregnancy, surgical abortion is a minor operation that takes a few minutes, it is usually done while awake during the 9-14 weeks of pregnancy and asleep after these weeks.

Many believe that abortion is wrong because of many risks for women, main risks that are associated with abortion include infection to the womb, excessive bleeding and damage to the entrance to the womb. Although these risks are not as common many are still worried about them, mental health issues however are very common. In contrast some believe that abortion is not morally wrong as they believe that women should have every right to their own body and that governments should not be able to take away the reproductive choices.
