I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 164. This part of the book has many significant events. Starting off with that Jem and Scout believe that there father Atticus is old and not as cool as the other Dad’s in Maycomb. But they are soon proven wrong by this when they discover what a marksman Atticus really is, he’s one of the best there is. He shot down the rabid dog in one shot. There is also an old lady named Mrs. Dubose that always insults Jem and Scout when they walk by her house, usually when they have done nothing wrong. She calls them names and loves to make fun of there father Atticus for liking to help Black People. So on Jem’s birthday he received some money. So him and Scout went off to spend it. The first explanation I have for this is that the mob left because they saw the children. They wouldn’t want to do anything to cruel in front of scout because she is so young. They don’t want to hurt anyone with the kids there. They also wouldn’t want to halve to hurt the children if they interfered. Also, when Scout was there, she talked to Mr. Cunningham; it was very brief but got his attention. So by doing this Scout might have brought him out of his mob mentality state of mind. So mob mentality is what caused the mob to come to the jail in the first place. One persons actions leading to eventually creating a mob. They were going to lynch Tom Robinson, because of mob mentality. But since Scout talked to Mr. Cunningham, this brought him out of his rage, and made him think as an individual and not be forced around in the mob. So after Scout talked to him the Mr. Cunningham began to leave, and again from mob mentality, one person leaving leads to another, and another, until they all the left Atticus and Tom Robinson alone.
