(Shalaway, 2005) So what I ask students to do is help in designing and agreeing on classroom discussions, behaviour management, language, respectful questions, manners and respect for who is speaking and equipment for learning.
I have aligned establishing clear expectations, routines and rules with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Standard 4 – Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments, focusing in particular on section 4.4 - Maintain student safety. William Glasser’s Choice theory can be applied to behaviour management in the classroom has a huge impact on how instruction is delivered. (The William Glasser Institute, 2010) The role of the teacher is to show students that working hard and following teacher instructions is worth it and will positively impact their lives. To do this it is imperative that developing positive relationships with students and providing active, relevant learning experiences where students can demonstrate success.
