Shakespeare’s themes are still relevant in the 21st century. In Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, the concept of love is evident, and is still a main genre of film and novel today. Furthermore, fate is also used in Shakespeare’s works, including the play. Finally, the idea of family is apparent throughout the play, with the concept being used everywhere in modern works. To develop the idea that Shakespeare’s themes are relevant in the 21st century, we need to analyze his play, Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare has many themes in his play, one of which being love. An example of love in Romeo and Juliet is in Act 2 Scene 2 when Romeo says: “O, speak again, bright angel, for thou art as glorious to this night.” These words from Romeo show his love for Juliet. Another example of love in Romeo and Juliet is in Act 5 Scene 3 when Romeo says: “Death, that hath sucked the honey of thy breath, hath had no power yet upon thy beauty”. This is said because, although drinking a vile of poison, Juliet still looks beautiful.
