They were extremely resourceful, their towns had great stability, and they created meaningful and important pottery. They would make pottery, jewelry, and figures. Pottery was very important to the Mayas because it would help preserve their history. They would document their forms of historical records that were related to mythological and legendary matters. There were many different styles of pottery throughout the different regions. This gave them more options on how they would record their beliefs. This is another reason why the Mayas were a genius civilization, they found a way to record their beliefs and uphold their religion. The art of pottery was very important to their culture so the teachings of the craft would be passed down by family. Since there were so many teachings and different materials being used, there was a wide range of techniques and types of pottery. On the left is a photo of a ceramic vessel that illustrates Mayan mythology. It has several scriptures and drawings along it. The style of pottery is the codex style. This is truly significant because the ceramics are still intact today and you can even see the colors and scripture very clearly.
