Why Should Gun Control Laws Be Strict

Gun control laws are a widely controversial topic that emotionally and physically affects people. Gun control laws have been set to protect us, although now many people are questioning whether these laws are “strict” enough or need to be “stricter”. Especially over the last few years, many tragedies have occurred such as the Sandy Hook shooting or the Las Vegas Concert shooting. The rising interest in this topic has brought up many stances, many of which are from people that do not truly understand the topic and/or problem.

Many people that support making gun laws “stricter” usually have 3-4 main points to support them, these points are along the lines of “Gun control laws aren’t strict enough”, “They’re are too many gun crimes …show more content…

This side of the topic has many arguments/points that range from argument to argument, the main points that oppose the other side are “Focus on stopping illegal guns, not limiting legal guns”, “ There are many more reasons that people own guns than just criminal use”, and “better background checks will make little to no difference, since legal guns aren’t the problem”. This point usually is not understood by the media and many others, the vast majority of gun crimes are not committed with legally obtained guns. The majority of guns that are used in gun crimes are obtained illegally, most of those that are smuggled through the Mexican border. There are many pieces of evidence to support this, here are some very trustworthy people who also agree with this. David Gagne, a report on a recent study about gun smuggling stated that “More than 2,000 illegal weapons pass through Mexico to the US each day” (David Gagne). John Faso, a New York representative, also stated that “The vast majority of gun crimes are committed with illegal guns” (John Faso, NY representative). Tracey M.
