Drugs affect people, whether they are users themselves, drug dealers, victims, or dealing with a friend or family member’s. There are several reasons to legalize drugs in the United States. Drug dealers will be pushed out of the retail market by known drugstore retailers. We will be able to sleep in our homes and walk the streets more safely. It removes the responsibility for distribution of drugs from policy makers and hands it over to unregulated and violent dealers.

Members of organized crime stand to lose the most from legalizing to the drug trade. Smugglers and pushers would go out of business. There wouldn't be enough criminal to employ them all. Drug users would buy for much lower price. A user's habit can be supported with honest work because high drug prices would be eliminated. If we are concerned about the influence of organized crime on government, industry and our own personal safety, we could strike more damaging against today's gangsters than to legalize drugs.
