William Shakespeare was a famous poet and playwright in the Renaissance. Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom in 1564. He was the third child of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, and he had five other siblings. It is thought that Shakespeare attended from King’s New School in Stratford, but there are no records to confirm it. When he was eighteen, William married Anne Hathaway; they had one girl and twins, but one of the twins died at age eleven. After the twins were born in 1585, there are seven years of Shakespeare’s life that there are no records on. In 1597, he bought New House, which was the second biggest house in Stratford, for his family. He did not go there often; for it was far from London, where he wrote and acted plays. Along with his business partners, Shakespeare built a theatre, called the Globe, on Thames River in 1599. He ended up making more financial investments, which gave him time to focus on his plays. His early works were histories and comedies, and most of his later works were tragedies and tragicomedies.
