William Shakespeare was born around April 23, 1564 in his hometown of Stratford- upon-Avon. William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. He lived with his two parents, two younger sisters whose names are Joan and Anne, and his threes younger brothers Gilbert, Richard, and Edmund. He has written many plays like Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet, and poems such as “A Lovers Complaint”, and “The Phoenix and the Turtle.” William Shakespeare is one of the world's most famous authors: he is known best for his talent in writing of plays, and poems, and he is known for one of his best plays called Romeo and Juliet. The clothing during this time was very old fashioned and modest. Shakespeare wore what is called a ruff around his neck, and it added elegance to his look. He also wore doublets, breeches, and collars. The clothing people wore during this era told people about one’s statue and wealth. The Plague was the deadliest disease while Shakespeare was alive; the disease was carried by rodents like rats. “The outbreaks in 1563 and 1603 were the most ferocious, each wiping out over one quarter of London’s population,” (shakespeare-online). During the plague, the people who caught the plague only had a fifty-fifty chance in survival. During Shakespeare’s time, the Anglo-Spanish War was going on, but it was never declared an official war; it was just an ongoing conflict between the Spain and England. The war lasted from 1585 to 1604. The English army had many victories such as Cádiz in 1587 and the Spanish Armada in 1588, but they also had many defeats like Armada in 1589 and the Battle of Drake- Hawkins. One of the biggest cultural movements in William Shakespeare life was the Renaissance. “Finally, it was also the age of the Renaissance, when there was a revival of classical styles of painting, and architecture…,”(David Hilliam).The Renaissance is the “New Birth” of classical literature, art, and learning. Romeo and Juliet was about a man named Romeo falling in love with a girl named Juliet, but someone is already seeking her hand in marriage. Though Juliet is only fourteen this man who wants to marry her has to wait two years. Juliet’s father invites this man to a party where Romeo will be there. Instead of Juliet falling in love with the man she is supposed to marry she falls in love with Romeo, but they knew they wouldn’t be able to marry, but they were married in secret instead of a nice formal wedding. Before the wedding night of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin in a duel, and he is forced to leave the town and her, and if he returned he would be sentenced to death. She is forced to marry the man who that wanted to marry her, but she didn’t want to marry. She faked her death and planned to be with Romeo. She took a sleeping potion and her parents believe she is dead, so they put her in a tomb, but Romeo actually thought she was dead, so when he visits her tomb he kills himself, and when Juliet wake up she see that Romeo is dead and she kills herself. Shakespeare didn’t really have a writing style; it is what is called blank verse. A lot of William Shakespeare themes of writing were comedy, betrayal, and lust. The Renaissance influenced his writing a lot. It let him be more free with his writing. His influences to literature were huge; he had some of the most interesting plays, and poems.
