A successful person is someone who takes on obstacles strives for their goals through easy and struggling times. “What Drives Success?” is an article by Amy Chua and Jed Rubenfeld which talks about how there is actually a secret to success; the secret is that there are three traits that learned from family, specifically parents but if these traits weren’t obtained then they can be obtained through hard work and courage. The way students see education is part of what makes a successful college student, but there are some demands in college that students may face such as being able to pay for school while supporting themselves, and sometimes their family, work issues, and balancing school with real life. Humans are naturally social people, students need to have friends in college. It may sound a bit confusing that friends are needed in order to succeed but it’s the truth. Students need friends to help with some a project that may not have been explained correctly or misunderstood. Every college gives the liberty of making new friends, Cerritos College has these iFalcon habits of mind on their website with resources which one of the links called link up which helps people get an idea of how they can connect to other students and even teachers giving them an advantage in their education. In the link up section there show a couple resourceful apps such as “Text Free” to help stay connected and network with friends for free. Students need these friends; they are there to help even in education in topics as such, as the ones they may have in their class or maybe in others. But failure isn’t a bad thing, students should see it as an advantage for a second try. Failure is necessary in order to see the struggle towards success, but if the student finds a way to take failure and turn it into an opportunity to learn then these students will have a complete package to becoming successful. It’s hard to stay happy when theirs a failure in front of the student and that is understood, but that’s the wrong way to see a failure. Carol S. Dweck wrote an article called “Brainology” where he talks about how there’s two types of mindsets, one which is a fixed mindset and the other that is a growth mindset. The article explains how people get these mindsets by how they were praised and why a growth mindset is the best to have in which she writes “Intelligence praise, compared to effort (or ‘process’) praise, put children into a fixed mindset”.
