Relationships can be emotional because you are looking after another persons well being, creating stability in their lives, learning how to be a good friend and in doing that, a relationship is being formed. It is a disagreements on an issues. Conflicts at work can not be avoided as we both have different ideas on how to make things work. With the individuals we look after. It is unavoidable. I work in a supported living. The individuals I work with have some level of capacity. Some of them can make decisions by themselves in terms of what they want to eat or buy. A good example is when we go shopping, the individuals can decide on buy 24 packs of crisps and finish it same day. As a support worker, I will encourage the individual not to buy 24 and buy a six pack and this can sometimes poses a challenge in the shopping centre. I will at this point explain the health risk involving eating all 24 crisps at once. Upon arrival back to the service, I will refer them to the dietician and explain to them what was done. Skills needed is patience. I need to calm down and explain properly in a low tone and clearly. My communication skills will be very useful at this time. I need to be able to control my emotions. And react in a constructive way even in the midst of perceived
