Workplace issues are the issues concerned with employee behaviour, employee appointment and termination, employee development, and the working environment or conditions, which result in the overall performance, stability, and culture of an organization (“Workplace & Labor Issues,” n.d.). Most of people spend nearly one-third of their adult lives at work, which causes workplace issues to become common source of stress for many. It is impossible that everyone have perfect roles, expectations, and personalities, without conflict occur. Therefore, certain workplace issues may cause negative psychological symptoms. Discrimination defined as bias or prejudice resulting in denial of opportunity, or unfair treatment regarding selection, promotion, or transfer. Discrimination is practiced commonly on the grounds of age, disability, ethnicity, origin, political belief, race, religion, sex, and etc. Unequal treatment provided to one or more parties on the basis of a mutual accord or some other logical or illogical reason. The issues that Samsung encountered are wage discrimination and unequal treatment, the world’s largest technology company ground to a halt due to the powerful protest, denouncing the systematic wage discrepancy between male and female employees (Kim, 2016). This will occurs when the operation of the labor market, similar workers receive different wages on the basis of race, age, ethnicity, sex, or other ascribed characteristic not directly related to productivity. Workers subject to wage discrimination may earn lower wages in a given job, be assigned to low-wage jobs within firms, or employed in low-wage firms. South Korean women suffer the worst wage gap among all OECD countries. Nearly every single female employee from Samsung HQ has vacated their office, leaving the company utterly inoperable.
