In my time writing this essay, I have used different techniques that I have never used before. Some of these I might continue to use, and some I will never use again. Throughout this process I have also been able to improve on my writing ability as a whole. When I normally write I do not make an outline, as I am often only writing lab reports, which have their own predetermined structure. I will admit that using the outline made writing the essay slightly less difficult. Instead of tackling the entirety of the essay at once, I was able to pick it apart piece-by-piece. Though when first creating ideas the strategies of free-writing and brainstorming seemed almost useless to me. I have always disliked any kind of creative writing, and this assignment was no exception. The difference for this essay was that I was forced to use the writing strategies that I had always been so against. Now in no way was this as dreadful as any other essay I have had to write. In fact, it was the opposite. I only say I did not enjoy it, I view this type of writing as almost a form of torture for me. I am a Biology major, I will never have to write in any similar fashion as this narrative in the field. The writing here is based on data that was recently observed, not a painful memory from years ago. Though I might not be required to use this type of writing in my field of practice, these lessons will surely come in handy during my years in college. Even though I may not enjoy a certain class, English for example, these writing skills will assist me when the next writing assignment is presented to me. The only thing that I did not learn from this essay that I have been trying to figure out for years, is how people sit down at a computer and type
