Human resource management is the process of employing people, training them, compensating them, developing policies relating to them, and developing strategies to retain them. In the early days of human resource management, this position meant processing payroll, sending birthday gifts to employees, arranging company outings, etc. This field has grown to be a crucial business partner within the modern company to add straight to the bottom line. As a strategic business partner, a human resource manger can develop trainings, competitive salaries and benefits packages to attract and retain talent and expertise. When developing my staffing and recruitment strategy it is best to work with all departments, including managers and executives to obtain an accurate estimate of staffing needs. The next step in the process is taking inventory of current skills and abilities. This can be accomplished by sitting down with department managers who know their individual teams. This allows me to fill any blanks in our team through our recruitment strategy, and lets me know which skills are needed for our staffing plan. Our plan will allow employees to refer people they feel are qualified for the positions needed, we will also post on traditional sites such a monster.com and indeed.com, plus to attract younger talent, LinkedIn. Compensation and Benefits goals should be derived from the overall business strategy. Attracting better talent and retaining out top talent is very important. As director, I would like to survey our workforce to see what we could improve upon. This will boost employee morale so they know we are dedicated to making the work environment better.
