“Caring for a child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can be draining” (International Clinical Trials Registry, 2014). ADHD is a condition which a person is unable to control behavior due to difficulty in processing neural stimuli. ADHD sufferers are increasing worldwide.There are different causes and symptoms for ADHD. The aim of the essay is to focus light on the ADHD data about it, causes, symptoms and treatment. According to the American academy of pediatrics (2011), “Approximately 11% of children 4-17 years of age (6.4 million) have been diagnosed with ADHD as of 2011”. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. There are so many different causes of ADHD. Genes can be one of the causes of ADHD, Bhandri (2015), pointed out “If a parent has ADHD, a child has more than a 50% chance of having it. If an older sibling has it, a child has more than a 30% chance”. In the same way, environmental factors can affect the fetes, for example if the pregnant mother smokes or drinks alcohol the child at risk of ADHD.
