From the onset of Texas’ introduction into the United States in the mid 1800s, cotton farming was an important engine for the state economy such as much of the south during that era. Many of the first people to settle in Texas at the time of annexation emigrated from states below the Mason-Dixon Line and had brought with them, the production of cotton, as would be expected. In addition, ranching also played a key role in the financial progress of the state. Throughout the 1800s and into the early 1900s, this trend continued and grew stronger with developments such as the railroad and other new technologies which allowed cotton to be harvested in a more efficient manner. The construction of railroads was particularly important because of the lacking infrastructure within the vast state for reliable transportation.
You will always have a competitive nature. I get compared to my sister all the time, so we are constantly competing. It is hard sometimes, because we may not excel at the same things. However, being competitive helps to push ourselves to be better.
Some may take the easy way out, but others challenge themselves and take on what the world throws at them. Even though they may not achieve the results they would like, they keep pushing themselves and don’t give up. Not everything in life comes easily, so some sacrifices have to be made for the long run. Of course there will be those whose only goal is to just pass, nothing less, nothing more, but there will also be those who go above and beyond. We, as AP students, know that for a successful career, college is the first step and colleges look for students who challenge themselves in a tough course rather than getting a 100 in a regular course.
I want to be ready for college. So I thought just being in an AP will let know what to expect in my future college, if I go to one. I’m not entirely certain which college i 'm going to, if i’m going to one at all, but I definitely feel capable of doing so. I want to keep all of my opportunities open. I believe taking this class will perhaps make a college want to take my money over the next guy’s.
To some, Advanced Placement (AP) courses are strenuous courses and unbeneficial, but it is important to understand that they are courses used to prepare students for college. AP courses are designed to help students reach their maximum learning potential, while exposing them to the workload of a college course. AP courses are beneficial for students who wish to challenge themselves and increase their options for their future. One reason AP classes are advantageous to high school students is because they put them ahead of students who do not take AP when they apply to college. According to “The Pros and Cons of Taking AP Classes in High School”, the author Allison Wignall suggests that taking standard courses is not as impressive to the college
Community service is not just something I do to be a part of National Honor Society. Community service is more to me. To volunteer and do good for my community and others are the major reasons for me completing my service hours. Just seeing other people’s lives brighten up because of my help is my reward.
A to P: Advanced Placement Course and Their Beneficiality At the end of every year of high school, students get a lengthy list of courses to pick for the next year. Among the list are numerous AP courses that students ponder over. The common question asked by these students are, is that AP class worth taking? Some don’t think twice to take it and others bravely choose their AP course of choice.
In the 1950’s the intentions of AP classes were to benefit students. These rigorous classes were meant to give student’s college level work and exams to better prepare them. While also gaining college credits to save money. However, over the course of time the purpose of AP classes have changed and failed. In particular, many colleges do not accept AP courses as college credit and students are required to repeat the course at college, an honors class is seen as more useful in the long run, students do not get credit for the class if they do not pass the exam, some state that the work is not like college work at all, and it causes students to be stressed.
Throughout this course, I’ve written a variety of essays starting from Approaches to a Written Argument, Personal Essay, Academic Argument Essay and Process Reflection essay. I’ve learned a great deal of information between these four essay. I’ve learned that most of the time when you write a college essay, it’s going to need to be written in APA format and if it’s not in APA format you can get serious points taken off of your grade. APA format has to be set up in a specific, from the title page to a reference page and APA must have a reference page, because it’s considered plagiarism when you’re not giving credit to the author who you’re quoting from. I’ve also learned about the I.C.E method.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
AP United States History was the most difficult class I took in High School. As a sophomore, it was the first time I was in a class that was self-driven rather than conventionally taught. It focused heavily on note taking outside of class, and the in-class time was about applying what we learned to the real world and analyzing its overall effect on society. My goal going into the class was not to get an A or B, but rather to become more self-disciplined for the future. My goal was to grow as a learner, and to prove that I am capable of teaching myself.
While self-accessing my overall performance in English 111, I would say I have done fairly well. I learned a lot about English and mostly about myself. I learned what I needed to work on and improve. Reflecting on my overall performance, I will start by explaining my participation in class, my performance in two areas, how I transitioned into the role of a college student during the semester, what process I used to be successful in English 111, and my overall skill development. This past semester has been a real challenge for me, as well as a huge eye opener.
The life of a college student can be difficult. Learning this first hand has been a very unique experience. My brother always told me that the beginning is easy, but the pressure eventually comes. That pressure is one of my barriers, and this class is teaching me how to get past those barriers. I think this class is very unique.
During the course of this semester, I feel that I have grown substantially as a writer. I think that I could improve even more with practice as well as using a few resources. This class has helped me drastically by improving my writing structure but I think it could have been even better if I had spent my time more efficiently. Overall this class has been very beneficial to me and I think it will really help me in the future. When I started this class I took a completely different approach to writing a paper.
My journey in this English 3001 course during the past ten weeks, and over the course of taking is English class I have grown and learned more that I thought it is necessary for me to know as a student. I have improved in my overall writing skills because if you look at my second in-class essay and the rest of my essay you will see that I have made progress and improvement compare to my diagnostic essay and the first in-class essay. Moreover, now that I have completed the English course my skills are better that I am capable to meet the university standard writing requirements.
