Abraham Lincoln was a leader throughout his whole life. He successfully lead the Union through the American Civil War. He showed leadership by abolishing slavery. Abe’s commitment over everything he had done was clearly seen. Him being a persistent man had helped him succeed. His smarts and intelligence lead him to being one of the most famous and unforgettable people in the whole entire world. Lincoln was the Captain of his military regiment. He later got demoted back to a Private. In his military career, Abraham Lincoln never even got involved in a war. Being a committed lawyer, he earned one of the most famous nicknames in the world. His nickname that was given to him was Honest Abe. Lincoln was committed to winning the president race. He never gave up on the race and eventually won. Lincoln was not popular in his political race. As a congressman, he was pretty unpopular with many Illinois voters for his strong stance against the U.S. war in Mexico. Abraham was committed to be the sixteenth president and he successfully achieved this goal. During the harsh Civil War, Lincoln never gave up on the Union, even with all the hardships. Abraham Lincoln lost eight elections, failed twice in business and suffered a nervous breakdown. He could have given up many times but because he did not quit he became one of the countries greatest leaders as the United States sixteenth president. In 1816 his family and him were forced out of their home and he had to support them. Lincoln, seven years of age, went out turkey hunting one day and shoots a wild turkey. However, he suffers great remorse. This is a reason why he never hunted ever again. Young Abe was kicked in the head by a horse and was thought to have been dead for a brief period of time. His mother died not long after in 1818. In 1832 Lincoln ran for state legislature and lost. This was to be the first of many political failures of Abraham Lincoln. The year after he lost the election for state legislature he tried his hand in business with some money he borrowed from a friend but by the end of the year in 1833 he was bankrupt. It took Abraham Lincoln the next seventeen years to pay of his debt. In 1834 he ran for state legislature again and this time he won, but this victory was to be short lived for in 1835 his fiance dies from a fever.
