The 16th president of the United States of America, Abraham Lincoln served during the nation’s greatest crisis, the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln was the head of all administration agencies and commander in chief of armies. He had to make tough decisions and overcome many obstacles during this time. Abraham Lincoln played an important role in the Civil War. During this time, Lincoln gave out many important speeches that solidified him as one of the greatest presidents in history. In his inaugural address, he addressed a major problem in the South. The problem was slavery. President Lincoln addressed the issue with slavery moving into the territories that were not yet states. Lincoln knew that the slave states were worrying that new states would mostly choose to be free, and once there were enough free states, those states would have the votes in Congress to unite and end slavery (JAFFA).
