The truth about one’s character is that it is never static. It flows, twists, and melds into something entirely different then back again, and things as simple as everyday conversations and promises you make to yourself can have a profound impact on the person you are. To elaborate, character is not simply based on one’s experiences, but in the perception of these experiences, literally producing an incomprehensible amount of personalities. It helps to think of it in a way similar to string theory, where your experiences are impacted by what you do everyday, and thus are not simply points on a timeline. As a cross country runner, I learned that determination and persistence can lead you to achieve great things. My dedication to the sport allowed me to receive special recognition from my coach as a sophomore, and that only led to me wanting to achieve even more. My love and passion for volleyball have given me the drive and motivation that I will need for my college years, and for my life beyond that experience. As an accomplished scholar, I have learned that an open mind, some hard work, and a willingness to be taught can make all the difference in who you are as a person. In terms of accomplishments, I have never been on anything less prestigious than the honor role at my school, and have ranked in the top 5% of students for all four years. This, however, only made me hungrier for success, as I knew there were people who were still more intelligent than I. I hold a strong passion for the great unknown of deep space, and hope that I can one day develop technologies that will revolutionize the science as we know it today. Eventually, I plan to use my knowledge not only to pursue a career, but to make real and significant changes in the field of space travel, potentially at NASA, or another astronomical association. I wish to eventually increase the longevity of our race, and ensure the survival of our descendants for millennia to come, even after the far-off yet certain demise of Earth itself. That is the lasting impact I wish to create in the world when I eventually pass, and it can be set in motion with something as simple as a college class, or a conversation with a professor. More than anything, I wish to simply be presented with my one chance to make a difference, and I hope I get that
