Is Standardized Testing a Truly Effective System for Students?
Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by Its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid”. Modern schooling is one of the few in this society that has failed to evolve. The diminutive and sensitive essence of exams does not demonstrate how we use intelligence and knowledge in actual society. I see the importance of academic study, but one is obligated to know more than the ability to hold comprehension of intellectual information in your mind, in a simple word, memorization. Therefore, making it impossible to compare the actual cognitive performance of individual or groups of students. For this discussion, it may be shown that standardized testing is an ineffective system in the evaluation of student performance as a whole.
Standardized tests may come in diverse forms, multiple-choice and true-false formats are usually used for large-scale testing situations for the simple reason that computers can score them more quickly, consistently, and more cost effective, but that is the only upside. Questions are written by humans but graded by machines, paradoxical. Each stages and subjects test a student’s memorization and not the capability to understand the important knowledge that students require in our modern society. For example, during the choice and delivery of said questions, the subject matter and vernacular of both questions and answers. Subjectivity and objectivity can also enter the development of the same when passing scores are settled upon. This decision could affect the pass/fail ratio and or how many students achieve the degree of performance considered to be capable or
