Create Your Own Standards Standardized testing has been taking over the minds of children for many years, and possibly for many more years to come. This concept of education should have been outlawed many years ago, after affecting the later years in life for many people. Students work all their young lives to better their education, only to be discouraged by one test score. Standardized testing should be eliminated in schools, in order to increase success that many students have been working for their whole educational careers. In response to this, some officials may disagree. Studies have shown that 93% of students taking standardized test have created a positive effect on student achievement. Standardized testing only focuses on whether the student is competent at the time of testing. For example, a student may not be on their “A-game” while taking this test. Studies by the Brooking Institution show that 50%- 80% of students results were temporary, and not caused by day-to-day learning (Herman). Without standardized testing, students will feel that their twelve years of schooling was worth it. Everyday teachers quit their jobs due to the stress created by these tests. They are overloaded with stress from trying to prepare their students for the test. Teachers are forced to teach what is on the test, therefore, hindering a student's full learning potential. Nowadays teachers are caught up in teaching only what's on the exam that they neglect to teach their students skills that go beyond this (“Is the Use”). In addition, the student is also hammered with stress when something meaningful comes along with succeeding on the test. No child should ever receive pressure like
