The word "renaissance" is literally translated to "rebirth". It was the rebirth of many things, and in many ways. It began in Northern Italy in about 1350, after the Black Death killed about one third of the population; so the renaissance could even be considered the rebirth of the nation. It was mainly however, the rebirth of art, literature, education, and even religion. Donatello earned a reputation for himself for creating "larger-than-life" sculptures with many different techniques that he developed and then introduced to the renaissance era.
Standardized testing is a very well known topic for a lot of people. Many people believe they are helpful to measure students intelligence and academic performance. Just as many people believe it is unfair, stressful, and affects the school and state as a whole. Standardized testing is an unfair approach to measure each student’s academic performance; and is something we should get rid of.
A standardized test is a test that is supposed to tell the teachers and staff of a certain school whether or not the students have learned what they need to or they can retain the knowledge that they have been taught. “Standardized tests are an unreliable measure of student performance” (ProCon.org, Con 2). There are many reasons why this statement is true. Many people tend to agree that standardized testing is not an accurate source to measure the student's ability to retain and use the information they were taught during the school year.
Although standardized testing has been around for many years, it has become an increasing problem within the past decade. Many teachers, students, and parents feel administering these tests waste time in the classroom and add unnecessary stress onto children. Much of pressure is put

The debate over whether standardized tests improve education has paralleled education reform throughout the years. Failures in our education system have been increasingly blamed on the ubiquitous use of standardized tests. Historically, they had a good reputation for serving as a test of basic knowledge for admittance into college and providing a structured curriculum for teachers. Nowadays, standardized tests evoke feelings of stress and loathing from teachers and students alike.
There’s much controversy over standardized testing. Is it too much to ask of students to take standardized testing or is it good for students to be ranked as a whole. From extensive research the information will tell whether it is really causing a problem in the school or not. The questions being touched on are what is standardized testing, and how it is impacting the learning of our country as a whole, and how the practice of standardized testing is different from years past and how does the standardized testing effects students both mentally and physically learning. By finding the answers to these questions the hope is to be able to find what the values of standardized testing are and if it is really helpful to rank the the teacher and students or if it causes teachers to just “teach to the test.”
In today’s world standardized tests has become a necessity of the education system in the United States for many years. Standardized testing is described as in the dictionary as any form of test that requires all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from a common bank of questions, in the same way, and that is scored in a “standard” or consistent manner, which makes it possible to compare the relative performance of the individual . This need for testing was due to the passing of the No Child Left Behind Act. Standardized testing is starting to not be the way to test the skills and intelligence of students. Standardized tests do not show what a student understands and learns, but only prove how well a student does on a generic test. Schools are supposed to prepare students for life, and with the standardized tests, students are getting cheated out of a proper education and forced to improve their test skills. Too much time and energy to succeed is being diverted to standardized tests. Standardized testing is a presently flawed way of testing the skills of students today.

Students work their brains down and then don’t want to go to school. When students come to school on test days not looking so energized, and confident, it reasonable to say that something is wrong.

A majority of people have an issue with standardized assessment at this current time, “53 percent of teachers say standardized tests are ‘seriously flawed’ with almost 1 in 5 wanting to abandon standardized testing completely” (Pascopella 1). Because of this it’s very obvious change is required, although most people do not completely understand what this form of testing entails, what works, and what does not. Although, Standardized testing must be understood, as it affects a student's education and influences everyone in modern schooling. Standardized tests function in multiple ways, are administered different forms and are used for many reasons.
In the field of education there is going to be multiple things that you as a teacher are going to have to worry about. One of the things that you are going to have to deal with is standardized testing. Standardized testing is one of the things that teachers and students worry about. Standardized testing in my opinion is not as important as others make it out to be. Multiple things are wrong with standardized testing, such as, stressing out younger students, unfair to non-English speakers and students with special needs, also standardized tests are an imprecise measure of teacher performance but the test scores are used to punish and reward teachers.
Only limited amount of achievements, a small portion of the goals of education that can determine a person’s quality can be measured through standardized test. According to psychometrician Daniel Koretz, standardized test scores "usually do not provide a direct and complete measure of educational achievement." However, when most of the population wanting to understand current student achievement, they think that it is enough to talk about scores based and only on standardized tests. Accepting this assumption at face value, as nearly all pundits, journalists, and politicians do, is to fall prey to a "dangerous illusion." Although standardized tests can be made broader and more inclusive, twenty-two examples of truly valuable abilities and attributes: creativity, critical thinking, resilience, motivation, persistence, curiosity, endurance, reliability, enthusiasm, empathy, self-awareness, self-discipline, leadership, civic-mindedness, courage, compassion, resourcefulness, sense of beauty, sense of wonder, honesty, integrity are not intended or fully measured in the standardized test.
Each test has different orientations and purposes. Standardized tests, when used properly and for the correct reasons, can well enough determine a student's current elevation of strengths and weaknesses and his or her aptitude for clear understandings
