Against Standardized Testing Essay

Standardized testing is any form of test that (1) requires all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from common bank of questions, in the same way, and that (2) is scored in a “standard” or consistent manner(Edglossary.org). This is good for memorizing facts, and learning about topics, but they are not the best for true knowledge comprehension and retention. There should not be standardized testing, and a better way should replace it or even discontinue the standardized testing program.
Some of the smartest teachers do not rely on standardized testing to see how well a particular student is learning in class. According to Standardizedtesting.net, “The most skillful teachers don't rely very heavily on standardized tests. They observe their students, and communicate with them on a daily basis. Good teachers can often tell, without using exams, how well a student is understanding things. Parents might worry about whether or not a teacher's personal and non-test oriented evaluation of his or her students is accurate.” which clearly explains how a test is not the best method of discovering how much a student is learning and …show more content…

This is an important piece of information that shows just how anxious students get because they want to do well on an exam or test. They end up cramming study sessions together, and they memorize almost all of the information on the test.
