Uhh! It is that time of the school year. Standardized testing! Standardized testing is dreadful to students as well as teachers. But are these tests really helping anyone? (Rhetorical Question). Standardized testing should be banned (Charged word) because it is expensive, consumes too much class time, and does not improve student achievement. First, standardized testing is boring, tiring, and annoying to students and teachers (Parallelism) According to the research done in Texas, the cost to get standardized testing done was nine million dollars in the year of 2003 (logical appeal) This is a lot of money the state spends on testing when this money can go towards the funding of public schools. With nine million dollars spread equally amongst the school districts in Texas, schools would not have budget cuts. Teachers would still be able to keep their jobs, which were the jobs that were taken away from them because of budget cuts, and students would still be able to enjoy music and art ( emotional appeal) which are one of the first subjects to go because of budget cuts. …show more content…

Instead of teaching students information that will help them in their future life, they are forced to spend time answering multiple choice questions that will not help them in daily adult life. In 2010 after New York City’s reading and math scores dropped, many schools placed more pressure on students about standardized testing to avoid having the school shut down. This pressure included, two and a half hours of test prep, and test preparation on holidays. Additionally, the students of one school in Texas, was not allowed to participate in the discussion of the first anniversary of the 9/11 acts because of the increased pressure of test
