The United States is one of the most powerful countries in the world. It is ranked first in many things including army and economics. It even earns the most gold medals during the Olympics. Yet in education we are only ranked 17th. This stat is one of many that display that the United State’s education system is flawed. The average kid in the US is just not able to compete in the international level. There are many factors that make American education worse than those of other countries, but the most important one is standardized testing. Although standardized testing was adopted into the American education system to help student learn and master subjects, it is really killing their creativity and preventing them from thinking independently. When kids talk about school, they usually talk about each their grades in each class. They don’t talk about their own ideas of the subject or discuss what each is about. That is what standardized testing has to done to people. Children are stressing themselves out and studying really hard. But they aren’t studying to learn the material, they are studying to get an A on the test and pass the class. After a kid takes a test, they get back a grade. Education is different for every person. Each individual learns at his or her own pace. Instead of getting rid of standardized testing, teachers can use standardized testing to assess how each child is doing in the class. The results on the test tells the teacher which student needs more practice with the material and which are ready to move on to the next chapter. By reviewing the material with the children who had low scores until they fully grasp the information, the teacher now insures that all of the children in the class have a full understanding of what is going
