A statistical study shows that an average student takes 112 mandated standardized tests from pre-kindergarten all the way to their senior year in high school. Nationwide the issue of standardized test has undermined the success of students and created feelings of negativity for them. Parents are becoming concerned for not only the failing scores but for how nerve-racking the tests are on their children. Its overwhelming students in a way where it consumes their time away from learning the essential concepts behind the complex questions that are asked. Standardized tests are ineffective because they put extensive stress on students and limit their learning capabilities.

It limits their learning in many ways by making class curriculums align with tests and placing students in remedial programs or classes because of low test scores. They also limit student learning because they only focus on cognitive measurement, ignoring man other qualities such as curiosity, perseverance, and sociability. In Niki Adeli’s ted talk “What standardized tests don’t measure,” she describes how the government wants students to become the future leaders of tomorrow and to grow them into citizens.” She backlashes that statement by stating that “44% of students don’t even feel a sense of self-worth right now.” Students shouldn’t be put into standards because it leads them to become less open minded and think outside the box. Student learning is supposed to be about the development of knowledge and understanding subject matter over time. It shouldn’t be about teaching the test because then students only learn the ways to get high scores for a particular test and eliminates vital instruction that could potentially construct learning
