Arguments Against Standardized Testing

Standardized testing is supposed to test a student's ability of learning, but are these tests limiting the amount of education learned by students?Standardized testing has been in schools since the 1800s. Tests such as the PSSAs and/or Terra Novas are made mostly around the subjects of mathematics,language arts and in some cases science.Students are forced to take long tests to test their comprehension of the many subjects taught at school. Students feel pressured to do well in these tests and this adds on the extra stress students face during the rest of the school year. As well as that these tests waste valuable class time which can be used for getting a better understanding of topics taught. Standardized testing does not improve the academic success of students because it puts more stress on students, it wastes valuable class time and it stops government funds for the scores.

But do you know how? The government funds schools from standardized tests like the PSSA’s. The better the school does, the more money they get from the government. But what if the school doesn't have the resources to prepare and do well on these tests. If schools don't have the resources or money to prepare the students for the tests they most likely won't do as well as schools with the money. Plus students doing bad on these tests lead to the teacher getting blamed for the students ability to learn.The worse they do the less funding they're going to get and this may lead to the school shutting down. Families who can't afford to send their children to another school may be forced to not get an education. School is a place ,for many students, that they trust. If you take that away from a student they might never have a place like that
