Standardized testing has been a big issue in the last several years, and therefore should be eliminated. Some of the major reasons would be that it is causing severe stress in a lot of students. On March 14, 2002, it was reported that the Stanford-9 test came with an instruction book on what to do if a student gets sick on the test book. As you can see the stress that comes with tests does not just affect high school students, it can even affect college students. The next major reason would be it is an unreliable measurement of student performance. A 2001 study (http://standardizedtests.procon.org/) from the Brookings institution showed that 50 - 80% of improvements on tests were only temporary.
Many opponents will disagree and argue that standardized testing is a good thing. For example, China has a long trail of standardized testing and has led the world in education achievement. Although that may be true, those tests still put a lot of stress on them too, especially when their families are relying on them to do good so that way they can get a good job and support them in their old age. …show more content…
