Arguments Against Standardized Testing

Have you ever wondered, are the standardized tests helping my child, is it helping them learn? The articles from procon say that standardized tests are not helping the students, or even the teachers. One reason, that I believe that the standardized tests are not helping are because, it will lead to disappointment, and that they are just a waste of time. A social science teacher at Hillsdale High School states,”The common core is at risk for failure, not because the standards are bad per se,but because with standardized accountability, we again won’t get a real picture of achievement, people will be disappointed, and the standards and testing will run their course” Also, Carolyn J Heinrich, PhD, states,”There are little to no positive effect of these [test-based accountability] systems overall on the student learning and educational progress, and there is widespread teaching to the test and…..wasteful use of resources” Teachers all around the world are saying that they are a waste of time, they are stressful, and that they make the students disappointed, making them think that they are not smart enough to …show more content…

Diane Ravitch, PhD, states,” The tests are meaningless because the scores provide no information about what the students learned and didn’t learn. The teacher is not allowed to find out what the students got wrong.” The tests have no point in being there, because if the teachers can not see what the student got wrong, then they can’t help them learn anything. Teachers should be able to see what the students got on the standardized test, even though they are no help, but otherwise, the student will keep having the same problem over and over again, because they are failing the same area of
